Online graphics platform rebrands as Visme and moves to Rockville

Visme, the newly rebranded EWC Presenter, a cloud-based design suite, is working from a new location and is rolling out new features month after month. According to Payman Taei, director of operations at HindSite Interactive, where Visme is incubated, the startup will be a launching a premium version of its tools within the next month or so.

"In April 2013, we had a beta version with about 2,000 to 3,000 users," Taei says. "Now, our user base is growing. We have about 50,000 registered users." Much of that growth is coming from the education sector. "We've seen a burst of signups from students in [middle and high school] and from teachers. College graduates are [also] using Visme to create inforgraphic-style resumes. We'd like to gain more traction with businesses and organizations."

Visme, which is short for "visualize me," is a cloud-based, HTML 5 platform for designing online visual content, such as slideshows, graphics, infographics and banner ads. "We want to be the Swiss knife of visual content," Taei explains. "As designers, we didn't like to have to use 20 different tools [when creating online content]." So HindSite developed Visme.

Visme plans on rolling out a Powerpoint presentation feature in about a month. "You can import your Powerpoint into Visme, and we convert it so you can do further styling and share it easily with others," Taei says.

Visme also has templates, graph modules, drag-and-drop widgets and a library of free Flickr images to enhance content users create.

Premium users (who pay either $4.50 or $14.25 per month, depending on the amount of storage and collaboration they plan to use) get more features and options to download content, as well as an online collaboration tool, coming later this summer.

The company is now located in Rockville and is entirely self-funded. "We've had a couple of opportunities from outside investors," Taei says, "but it wasn't the right time or the right opportunity for us."
