Mobile Future announces $20,000 in award money for mobile development

The Mobileys, a new national contest for mobile developers, launched last week. Sponsored by Mobile Future, a D.C.-based policy group for wireless technology, the contest will award cash prizes to individuals or small businesses doing innovative work in the wireless sector. Top prize is $10,000 and entries will be accepted until October 21.

According to Allison Remsen, executive director for Mobile Future, The Mobileys are about "recognizing the tremendous work that is going on in tech communities all over the country. We're looking for folks who are looking to build a business and create the next great thing in mobile," she explains.

Applicants should be early-stage startups that have either launched their product within the past six months or plan to do so within the next six months. In addition to the top prize, Mobile Future will award a second prize of $5,000 and a third prize of $2,500. Additionally, $2,500 will go to the People's Choice winner.

A panel of six, including representatives from the world of technology and angel and VC funding will choose the winners. Finalists will be announced online in mid-November, at which point the public will be able to vote for their favorite entry for the People's Choice prize.

"We'll have an event to present the awards on December 11," Remsen says. "It'll be a fun night to celebrate."
