Construction could start as soon as August 22, 2013, the date that the Godfather of Go-go would have turned 77.

Called "Green'O'vation," the project will reopen O Street NW between 1st and 3rd, which has been closed since the original Dunbar High School was built in the 1970s.

The $1m playground renovation is part of the District's "Play DC" initiative that will upgrade 32 playgrounds by October 2013.

D.C. public charter school Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy staff, students and community volunteers will build a new KaBOOM! playground on May 15 on school grounds.

The design plans have been modified since the last meeting in January. The Bing Thom Architects-designed space now features more natural light and splashes of color.

Renovation work at Horace Mann Elementary School begins this summer. Architects will try to set bar for sustainability. 

DC Department of General Services (DGS) spokesperson Darrell Pressley confirmed that site prep work will begin the week of February 24th.
