The restaurant as of June 13, 2014

Crane & Turtle, a new restaurant in Petworth, is scheduled to open to the public on June 29. The restaurant is located at 828 Upshur St. NW, in a one-story building that once housed a wholesale bakery that made products for District of Columbia restaurants and markets.

The Ruppert Restaurant Group has been planning Crane & Turtle and Petworth Citizen, located across the street at 829 Upshur St. NW, since 2013. Petworth Citizen opened last September.

A reporter visiting the site of Crane & Turtle today found it a hotbed of activity, with workers installing wallpaper and more.

Crane & Turtle will have 24 seats at tables and seven seats at a counter that overlooks the open kitchen. The chef is Japanese but trained in France, and the menu reflects both influences. There will be a full bar. ?Kristi Green, who is bar manager for both Petworth Citizen and Crane & Turtle, estimates the price for a meal at $30 to $50 per person including drinks and entrée.

Nick Pimentel is doing the décor in what Green describes as calm and restful, with “a lot of blue, tiles and natural wood.”

Ruppert Restaurant Group also operates Room 11 in Columbia Heights, and The Passenger, Columbia Room and Hogo in Mount Vernon Triangle.
