New restaurant Bread & Salt will open in Tenleytown

A rendering of 4619 46th St NW; Bread & Salt will occupy the ground floor

A new restaurant, Bread & Salt, is expected to open within a month to six weeks at 4619 41st NW, in Tenleytown. The restaurant will be located in a new four-story commercial building at that address.

Paul Zucconi, Bread & Salt manager, said the restaurant and an accompanying bakery of the same name will occupy the first floor and basement. The other three stories will be offices.

Initially, the restaurant was to be called Fork & Spade, after a popular food truck of the same name. Zucconi didn’t know why the name was changed.

The restaurant will seat 100; an outdoor terrace will seat an additional 80 to 100. A large pizza oven will be placed in the middle of the restaurant floor. The restaurant will have a full bar.

Zucconi said the cuisine would be “Mediterranean,” and he is working on the menu with the chef. “We are trying to keep a cap on entrees to $25,” he said. “We want a family-friendly type restaurant.”

The restaurant will include a café for dining or carry-out items, and the bakery will sell fresh-baked breads and pastries.

American University is a few blocks away. Also a short distance away is an under-construction American University Law Center. The restaurant is also within walking distance of Tenleytown Metro.

“Tenleytown has always been a popular area, but it is being upgraded,” said Zucconi.
