Hoskins discusses the city's approach to economic development, which interviewer Amy Sullivan says is "not normally what people think of when they hear economic development."
For example, the
Gateway Pavilion at St. Elizabeth's East, which is meant to entice Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security employees to come outside their offices, seems like a typical project. But the deputy mayor's office also budgeted for programming--"giveaways, there'll be games, hay rides, pumpkins, free coffee for adults....we're going to have an ice rink this winter. Every Saturday, there will be free exercise boot camps for people to get in shape. It's really to draw people there first," Hoskins says.
