A new
set of rankings puts the University of Maryland, College Park among the top 100 global universities.
It is the nearest university to D.C. to be ranked on the list compiled by Times Higher Education, a U.K. based publication, and the distinction is new for the year 2013.
The university ranks, according to THE, with peers such as Monash University in Australia, Uppsala University in Sweden, and Texas A&M.

notes that in other rankings, such as the one put out by U.S. News & World Report, the University of Virginia scores higher than UMD.
