Fruitcycle, a local food startup that won the audience favorite at Mess Hall's Launch Pad competition, uses an old concept to breathe new life into food that would otherwise be discarded.

Mess Hall, a new culinary incubator in Brookland, opened Saturday night by hosting the final round of Launch Pad, a pitch competition for food entrepreneurs with a $500K investment purse. Mason Dixie Biscuit Company rose to the top and won first prize.
