Petworth's Fahrenheit Condos (maybe) ready to proceed

The old Goins restaurant will be transformed into a condo building

The long-awaited construction of the Fahrenheit Condominiums appears to be happening, finally. Pers Development intends to transform the former Goins Building, at 3930 to 3936 Georgia Avenue NW in Petworth, into a mixed-use, six-story condo building with retail on the ground floor. The project has been in the works for over a year, with "any day now" promises coming every few months. In March of this year, however, the District’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) issued a building permit for the project.

Pers Development has previously announced that the six-story building will be 32,000 square feet, including 3,000 square feet of retail on the ground floor. In the five stories above, there will be 31 one- and two-bedroom condos and a rooftop deck. The residential units are expected to be ready for occupancy a year after construction begins.

The company bought the property for $1.6 million. The project is estimated to cost $14 million. The site is two blocks from the Georgia Avenue/Petworth metro, between Shepherd Street NW and Randolph Street NW.

A rendering of the project has yet to emerge from the tight-lipped Pers Development, headed by Ramin Bassam and the project has but a minimal website.
