Three Brightwood buildings to get rehab

The Valencia, one of three Brightwood apartment buildings to be rehabbed and preserved as affordable housing

More affordable housing is in the works with the groundbreaking of Brightwood Portfolio, Commercial Property Executive reported May 8. Co-developers The Hampstead Companies and NixDev Company LLC, are preserving three historic and affordable apartment buildings – the Concord, Valencia and Vizcaya – into 140 units, 126 of which will serve families at or below 60% AMI. The remaining 14 will be market rate.

The project, at 5807 to 5825 14th Street NW in Brightwood, will also get new amenities like community and exercise rooms. The $32 million project is financed with help of the District agencies. The Brightwood Tenants Association was active in the project, which is expected to be done by March 2016.
